When?
50,000 Miles
What? Differentials and Transfer case fluids are grouped together because the fluids are similar and change intervals are the same. Both are often overlooked when performing preventive maintenance.
Why? The Differential is built tough but without regular fluid changes the clutches can start to grab or slip and the teeth on the gears will start to wear. Once the gears wear the only resolve is replacement.
Transfer cases are vital for 4WD and AWD applications. They are not as tough as the differential and can be damaged more easily. Regular fluid changes help them to last the life of the vehicle. Misuse will definitely shorten their life.
When? 50,000 Miles. If you purchased after 50,000 and are not sure if the fluid has been changed we recommend replacement of fluid.
